Tile Installation Pricing !

Homeowners know that budgets are one of the most influential factors when choosing a flooring materiasl. Tile cost is no different. It's very important to have a ballpark figure of what the different materials are going to cost so you can make an informed decision about which is best for you. Here's a list of the most popular tiles, and their cost per square foot for materials and installation. Keep in mind, however, that tile cost varies depending on region, the type of material you choose, and the labor costs. In other words, these tile cost figures aren't exact, they're just here to give you an idea of what to expect when you start shopping.

Stone tiles : Marble, granite, travertine, and others are by far the most expensive tile choice when it comes to both the materials and installation. The cost for stone runs $4 to $60 per square foot for the material itself, and $6 to $12 dollars per square foot for the installation itself. Many tile contractors charge more for installing stone because of the extra work involved and lugging around the stone tile is tougher than working with its ceramic and porcelain tiles.

Ceramic tiles : Run anywhere from $1 to $15 per square foot for materials and $3 to $8 per square foot for installation.

Custom Murals: Pricing can range between $8 to $20 per square foot on installation for custom murals.

Vinyl tiles : Are by far the cheapest on the market and run in the neighborhood of $1 to $4 dollars for materials and a very reasonable $1.50 to $2 per square foot for installation.

As with any home improvement project, expect to get what you pay for. Generally speaking the higher cost of the tile, the better the material you're getting. Same goes for the quality of installation. And again, keep in mind that prices will vary. The best way to get an idea of the cost of tile in your area is talk to regional suppliers and installers.

Don't Cut Corners

Also, don't forget that while tile cost is important to consider in making your decision, you are making a long term investment in your home. with that being the case, be careful about sacrificing what you want in order to meet your budget. Whatever you choose is going to be there for years to come, so it's very important that you get exactly what you want, despite the price.

So many factors affect the price of tile installations. Just like the old saying. Time equals money. If an installation is more difficult and therefore requires more time to complete, it stands to reason it should and will cost more.

Like I said there are so many factors involved, different materials have different installation methods, as do different sizes of material, as well as room and tile layout.

Larger tiles are not easier to install but actually more difficult. They take more time to handle and are heavier and more cumbersome to mark and cut. Trying to make them overcome the variations in the concrete is more difficult than a smaller tile following the same variations. All professional installers will not charge the same across the board, but consider all the factors involved.
